Volunteer Management Pipeline
Fellowship One enables the funneling of volunteers through a pipeline specifically designed to match people with volunteer opportunities that they are qualified to fulfill. The church defines the volunteer opportunity within Fellowship One and can specify if any custom requirements (e.g., Driver's License, Carpentry skills, etc.), background check, and/or reference checks are required for the opportunity. Fellowship One handles the rest.
The pipeline can start in one of two ways:
- The volunteer fills out a paper form that is entered into Fellowship One by a church staff member; or
- The volunteer completes an application that resides on the church website through Fellowship One WebLink, eliminating the need for a staff member to do data entry.
Stage 1: Narrowing Selections
Once application is received, the church volunteer coordinator is notified and can contact the volunteer to give a high-level description of each opportunity the person has applied for.

At this time, the volunteer may decide which opportunity he or she is most interested in pursuing. Next, the ministry leader requesting the volunteer may contact the volunteer and give specific information about the job including time requirements, meeting locations, and job details. The application next moves forward in the pipeline to the requirements stage.
Stage 2: Requirements
For each volunteer opportunity, Fellowship One can be configured to check for one or more of the following requirements:
- Background check
- Reference checks
- Any other custom requirements that must be met prior to assignment to the opportunity
Anything that the church requires a volunteer to complete prior to assignment is tracked in the volunteer pipeline. For example, the church may have a requirement that any volunteer must complete a seminar or specific class prior to being assigned to a volunteer opportunity. Once all requirements have been successfully met, along with a cleared reference and/or background check, the person is moved forward in the pipeline and is ready for assignment.
Background Checks
If an opportunity requires a background check, the volunteer is asked to provide a social security number when they complete an automated application from the church website. Fellowship One checks the applicant's record for previous background checks. If they have a valid and current background check on file, Fellowship One does not request a new check.
If the church prefers, Fellowship One can perform an automated background check request to one of our background check partners, either Clear Investigative Advantage or SecureSearch. Fellowship One sends a secure message to the agency with the appropriate information about the volunteer applicant. The agency then conducts all the required background checks according to the parameters the church selects. After the completion of all required checks, a secure message is sent back to Fellowship One. Fellowship One users with proper security can view the results of the check or simply its status, depending on the user's security rights.
Reference checks
Any number of reference checks may be configured for each volunteer opportunity. Additionally, custom interview questions can be created for the reference check. For example, questions about the volunteer's character or work habits can be created. The creation of reference check questions creates a script for staff conducting interviews to follow when contacting a reference.
Stage 3: Staffing
The final stage of the pipeline is staffing - or assigning the volunteer to his/her job. Staff can assign the volunteer to the appropriate ministry and job with confidence that the person has met all requirements successfully.
